Distance learning and testing department (DLTD)

Dis­tance Le­ar­ning and Tes­ting De­part­ment was for­med in 2000 and is sub­si­di­ary edu­cati­onal and re­se­arch branch of KAU, which pre­sents prog­ressi­ve edu­cati­onal ser­vi­ces for the Fa­cul­ty, post gra­du­ates, stu­dents and KAU en­rolle­es by me­ans of mo­dern in­forma­ti­onal tech­no­logi­es. Ma­in DLTD work di­rec­ti­ons are to pro­vide edu­cati­onal pro­cess at KAU with sci­en­ti­fical­ly met­ho­dical and tech­ni­cal help in pur­po­se op­ti­miza­te and or­ga­nize tes­ting sys­tem of stu­dents’ know­ledge cont­rol with the usa­ge of mo­dern com­pu­ter tech­no­logi­es.

Com­pu­ter ba­sed exams are held in pur­po­se of stu­dents’ know­ledge eva­lu­ation on dif­fe­rent sub­jects which we­re ta­ught at KAU not on­ly du­ring the term but al­so du­ring the who­le co­ur­se as well as all spe­ci­ali­ty sub­jects le­ar­ned du­ring the who­le pe­ri­od to­get­her with pla­cement test. New co­ming KAU stu­dents and emp­lo­yees al­so ta­ke com­pu­ter test on know­ledge of the Ka­zakh and Eng­lish Lan­gu­ages as well as com­pu­ter li­tera­cy.

New on-li­ne Lib­ra­ry has be­en for­med, which is al­wa­ys be­ing ad­ded with new edi­ti­ons of edu­cati­onal ma­teri­als.

DLTD has star­ted the prog­ram int­ro­duc­ti­on on Dis­tance Le­ar­ning (DL) at KAU as one of the mo­dern prog­ressi­ve forms of edu­cati­on: ne­ces­sa­ry inf­ras­truc­tu­re was for­med as well as lo­cal uni­ver­si­ty net which lets uni­ver­si­ty sub­di­visi­ons to exc­han­ge with the in­forma­ti­on and pro­vides them with the da­ta ba­se and In­ternet ac­cess.

In­tensi­ve work on cre­ation of on-li­ne co­pi­es of met­ho­dical ma­teri­als and ins­truc­ti­ons on ma­king In­de­pen­dent work of stu­dents in the form of tests is ta­king pla­ce. The du­rati­on of edu­cati­on on a sub­ject is 1–3 months and de­pends on num­ber of cre­dit ho­urs ac­cording to the cur­ri­culum.

One of the DLTD sub­di­visi­ons is Com­pu­ter-Tech­ni­cal Cent­re (CTC) which was for­med in 2000 in pur­po­se to int­ro­duce new in­forma­ti­onal sys­tems in­to edu­cati­onal pro­cess and to pro­vide all the uni­ver­si­ty with com­pu­ter ser­vi­ce and of­fi­ce equ­ip­ment.

The edu­cati­onal pro­cess is supp­li­ed with ne­ces­sa­ry tech­ni­cal and soft­wa­re sup­port. KAU has got com­pu­ter clas­ses with mo­dern com­pu­ters (P4), 8 of which are in the lo­cal net, whe­re lec­tu­res ta­ke pla­ce as well as prac­ti­cal clas­ses and of­fi­ce-ho­urs. The­se com­pu­ters are supp­li­ed with ne­ces­sa­ry for edu­cati­on soft­wa­re sup­port: MS Of­fi­ce, Ado­be pho­tos­hop, Co­rel Draw, 3Dstu­di­oMax, TP7, Delp­hi, Tur­bo As­semb­ler, Vi­su­al As­semb­ler, C++, C++Bu­il­der, Vi­su­al Ba­sic, Ja­va, Ja­va Script, MS SQL Ser­ver 2003, Orac­le, 1C:, Auto­CAD, Arc­hi­CAD. Dif­fe­rent vir­tu­al la­bora­tory works on Che­mist­ry and elect­ric cir­cu­it ta­ke pla­ce in the­se clas­ses as well as soft­wa­re en­vi­ron­ment for fo­re­ign lan­gu­ages le­ar­ning.

The­re is a KAU web si­te www.kau.kz which ref­lects the who­le in­forma­ti­on abo­ut the uni­ver­si­ty, De­part­ments, forms of edu­cati­on, ma­jors and etc. It is plan­ned to start edu­cati­onal por­tal in 2007.

The­re is an In­ternet Cent­re at DLTD, so the fa­cul­ty and the stu­dents ha­ve an In­ternet ac­cess. For the te­ac­hers it is not on­ly pos­si­bili­ty to get news in dif­fe­rent sphe­re of sci­en­ce and tech­no­logy but al­so to get in­forma­ti­on abo­ut in­terna­ti­onal con­fe­ren­ces and sym­po­si­um as well as pos­si­bili­ty to use In­ternet re­so­ur­ces in edu­cati­onal pro­cess.
Ta­king in­to ac­co­unt a big num­ber of forms and met­hods of dis­tance le­ar­ning de­velop­ment DTLD set a task to cho­ose the most ef­fecti­ve way to get the tar­get so it war­ranted a DL de­velop­ment stra­tegy on the ba­sis of sol­ving tasks in se­ven steps. Most part of the­se steps has be­en al­re­ady pas­sed and in the ne­arest fu­ture it is sup­po­sed to start re­ali­zati­on of the most im­portant part of DL ser­vi­ce int­ro­duc­ti­on of mul­ti­media co­ur­ses.

The de­velop­ment of DL le­ar­ning gi­ves op­portu­nity to get full ser­vi­ce in edu­cati­on, gi­ving ex­panded num­ber of pe­op­le pos­si­bili­ty to get edu­cati­on on ma­jors stu­di­ed at KAU.
