“Older people are precious”

The International Day of Older Persons in Kazakhstan is celebrated on October 1, the holiday was observed for the first time in 1991. The United Nations General Assembly voted to establish October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons as recorded in Resolution 45.
About two million retirees live in Kazakhstan. The government supports them, provides for one-time material assistance, special reduced fares on public transport, treatment in a sanatorium and resort and etc. There are also more than 350 social assistance offices at home.
On October 13, 2017 Kazakh-American University organized a meeting with older people of the Bostandyk district in Almaty, which the city administration announced the month of older persons. Bostandyk district is one of the largest districts of the city, there are about 40 thousand veterans, including 98 participants of the Second World War, 3870 front veterans, and 14 Leningrad blockade participants. Many of them could not come to the meeting for health reasons. The guests were glad to the meeting and shared their memories, life experiences.
Taking care of the older people is a mark of honor to them. Therefore, the better choice seems the approach that is looking after our older people. Older people are driving our life towards the right path with their wisdom and experiences.
